Casting heats up on revenge thriller. Last month it was revealed that Christian Bale was in talks to star in the gritty revenge thriller ‘Out of the Furnace,’ now word has emerged that ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Avatar’ star Zoe Saldana has also entered talks to join the project. Written and directed by Scott Cooper (‘Crazy Heart’) and based on the Brad Ingelsby script ‘The Low Dweller,’ the story follows an ex-con bent on avenging the murder of his younger brother as soon as he’s released. Saldana would be taking the role of Bale’s ex-wife, a waitress now married to the town sheriff. As previously reported, Robert Duvall is expected to play Bale’s uncle, with Viggo Mortensen (‘A Dangerous Method’) circling the role of the villain. Variety adds that Casey Affleck has become the frontrunner for the role of Bale’s brother. The film will be produced by Ridley and Tony Scott’s Scott Free and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way, as well as Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment.
