Yorgos Lanthimos

Greek auteur lines up cast for his next feature…

Screen Daily reports that Jason Clarke (‘Zero Dark Thirty’), Ben Whishaw (‘Cloud Atlas’), Léa Seydoux (‘Blue Is The Warmest Colour’), Olivia Colman (‘The Iron Lady’), Ariane Labed (‘Alps’) and Aggeliki Papoulia (‘Alps’) are all attached to star in ‘Dogtooth’ director Yorgos Lanthimos’ forthcoming English-language debut, the romantic drama ‘The Lobster.’

Penned by Lanthimos and long-time collaborator Efthimis Filippou, the unconventional love story is set in a dystopian near future where single people, according to the rules of the Town, are arrested and transferred to the Hotel. There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into the woods. A desperate Man escapes from the Hotel to the Woods where the Loners live and there he falls in love, although it’s against their rules.

Lanthimos and his producers, Ireland’s own Element Pictures and Ceci Dempsey’s Scarlet Films, are aiming for a March 2014 start.
