Watchmens Easter Egg July 18, 2008 Check out Synder’s nod to Steven Spielberg. Ok, strange as it may sound, it seems Zack Snyder has gone for an early Easter Egg with his first (and may I add awesome) Watchmen trailer. You can check out our breakdown of the Watchmen trailer here, but below you’ll notice a guy is holding a walkie-talkie instead of the gun he’s seen holding in the subsequent shots of the scene (for the whole thing, head to around the 1:30 mark of the trailer). According to Zack Snyder, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) wouldn’t allow the gun to feature in this shot because there’s a rule against guns pointed out at the audience (in ads only). So Snyder decided to give a knowing-nod to Steven Spielberg’s 2002 re-release version of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, which saw the removal of all guns – substituted instead with walkies (cause communication is the real solution – how after school special Steven…) Check it out in the picture below; we don’t expect this to remain in the final movie, which opens March, 2009.
