Villeneuve Enters STORY OF YOUR LIFE

Sci-fi drama lands new director…

Back in 2012 it was announced that commercials director Nic Mathieu was to make his feature debut with an adaptation of the award-winning short story by Ted Chiang, ‘Story of Your Life.’ Now THR is hearing that Mathieu is out, with ‘Prisoners’ helmer Denis Villeneuve replacing him behind the camera.

Adapted by Eric Heisserer (‘The Thing,’ ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’), the sci-fi centres on Dr. Louise Banks, a linguist who is recruited by the US government to communicate with the Heptapods, a race of radially-symmetrical aliens who initiated first contact with humanity. In the course of her communications, Louise begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.

Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps partner Dan Levine will co-produce the project with FilmNation’s Aaron Ryder and Karen Lunder. David Linde and Tory Metzger of Lava Bear, FilmNation’s Glen Basner and Eric Heisserer will serve as executive producers.
