UPDATED Joseph GordonLevitt Officially Signed To DARK KNIGHT RISES

‘500 Days of Summer’ actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt locked for ‘Dark Knight’ sequel. Juno Temple being eyed for a supporting role.

Variety has confirmed that after “weeks of quiet negotiations,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt is officially locked to join the cast of ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ The movie will see the actor re-teaming with Christopher Nolan and Tom Hardy, both of whom he worked with on ‘Inception.’

Speculation was rife that the actor was playing Robin, The Riddler, Deadshot or Jean-Paul Valley, a character who assumed the mantle of Batman once the original Dark Knight was defeated by the steroid-fueled Bane.

Now, according to Variety’s sources, the actor is to play Alberto Falcone, the son of former mob boss Carmine Falcone – played by Tom Wilkinson in ‘Batman Begins.’ Alberto Falcone, also known as The Holiday Killer, would bring Nolan’s superhero trilogy full-circle. The character also fits the director’s intentions to stay along the lines of the non-cartoonish villains to pit the against the Caped Crusader.

Juno Temple (‘Greenberg,’ ‘Atonement’) is also reported to be up for a role. There is not much info on her character yet, only that she’ll be playing “a street-smart Gotham girl.” Rumours are suggesting that we may see an appearance of a preexisting DC character like Holly Robinson, Stephanie Brown, Harley Quinn, or Barbara Gordon.

The 21-year-old actress appeared in the Sundance hit ‘Little Birds,’ and will soon be seen in Abe Sylvia’s ‘Dirty Girl,’ and the latest version of ‘The Three Musketeers,’ which is being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ already has a cast of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway. Marion Cotillard is still rumoured to be joining the cast. Shooting will begin soon, with a release date set for July 2012.
