Filmmaker circles underdog sports drama.

Jon Turteltaub (‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,’ ‘National Treasure’) is eyeing the director’s chair for Fox 2000’s long-in-development family sports drama ‘Beached,’ reports THR.

Based on a script by Ted Griffin (‘Tower Heist,’ ‘Ocean’s Eleven’), the story centres on a overweight “4-year-old child who falls overboard during a family outing, is raised by whales and goes on to become an Olympic swimmer.” Hmm, interesting.

The project had Betty Thomas (‘John Tucker Must Die,’ ‘I Spy’) attached to direct at one point, but the film fell into development hell. Now, with Turteltaub’s involvement, the project is beginning to move forward once again. Turteltaub will reportedly oversee a new draft of the script.
