Heat Vision is reporting that the screen rights to Jimmy Palmiotti and Phil Noto’s 2005 two issue comic ‘The New West’ have been optioned by Benderspink and Wizard Magazine founder Gareb Shamus.
Set in a near-future Los Angeles, an electromagnetic pulse bomb has caused all technology to stop working. In this hostile environment Daniel Wise, a disgraced former LAPD detective, must rescue a kidnapped mayor with only a horse and a sword.
Chris Bender, JC Spink and Jake Weiner of Benderspink will produce alongside Shamus. Benderspink’s credits range from the comic book adaptation ‘A History of Violence’ to ‘Burt Wonderstone,’ the in-production magician comedy top-lined by Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey.
