Steve Carell to Produce and Star in Heist Action Comedy CONVICTION

Carell to play mastermind thief in new action comedy.

Deadline is reporting that Steve Carell (‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’) has signed on to produce and star in the heist film ‘Conviction’ for Warner Bros.

Penned by Jonathan Herman, the project was originally being developed as a drama in the vein of ‘Heat.’ The reworked film will be an action comedy with a tone similar to ‘48 Hours’ and ‘Ocean’s Eleven.’ In the film Carell will be playing “a mastermind bank robber who serves five years in prison following a botched heist who is forced by an FBI agent to entrap his protégé as the upstart pulls off a multimillion-dollar job.”

Carell’s Carousel banner will be producing with Joel Silver, Alex Heineman and Silver Pictures head Andrew Rona. The producers are trying to lock in a writer to redraft the project.
