Standalone STAR WARS Films Confirmed

Disney head honcho confirms stand-alone films.

Walt Disney Chairman & CEO Bob Iger has confirmed rumours that screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg have been brought in to work on stand-alone films centred around other characters in the ‘Star Wars’ universe that will be used to the same time frame as the new trilogy will be released.

“I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga,” Iger told CNBC. “We still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six-year period of time, starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period, too.”

As previously reported, Oscar-winning scribe Michael Arndt (‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Little Miss Sunshine’) is currently working away on the screenplay for ‘Star Wars: Episode VII,’ the first Disney-produced installment of the ‘Star Wars’ franchise that J.J. Abrams will direct.
