Shankman Confirms ROCK OF AGES Casting Rumours

Adam Shankman confirms the casting of Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Tom Cruise, and Julianne Hough.

Adam Shankman (‘Hairspray’) has confirmed, via Twitter, that the big-screen version of Broadway hit musical ‘Rock of Ages’ will star Tom Cruise, Julianne Hough, Mary J. Blige and Alec Baldwin.

Shankman tweeted: “So, based on info I got today, I’m gonna confirm Alec Baldwin as Dennis in Rock Of Ages. Hollah.”

In a separate tweet, Shankman added: “Can’t wait to start #rockofagesmovie. Julianne Hough, Alec Baldwin, Mary j Blige, Tom Cruise confirmed. I love my cast. More to come.”

The “more to come” may address the rumored involvement of Anne Hathaway, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Russell Brand. Justin Theroux (‘Iron Man 2’) is currently polishing the script written by Allan Loeb (‘The Switch’).

‘Rock of Ages’ tells the story of star-struck kids, Drew and Sherrie – he, a wanna-be rocker; she, a wanna-be actress – as they struggle through and with the wild-living scene of Los Angeles in the 1980s. The stage show is fueled by the hair metal of the era, including songs by Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagan, Pat Benatar, and Twisted Sister.

52-year-old Baldwin is set to play Dennis Dupree, a former rocker who runs The Bourbon Room, a fictional Hollywood club on the Sunset Strip. The character sings such well known hits as “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and “The Final Countdown.” Tom Cruise will play heavy metal singer Stacee Jaxx, whose character sings hits like “Wanted: Dead or Alive”, “Cum on Feel The Noize”, and “I Want to Know What Love Is.” but it’s unclear if those songs will still be included in the movie version. Julianne Hough will play Sherrie.
