Sequel hires new screenwriter.
THR is reporting that Columbia Pictures has hired screenwriter Becky Johnston (‘Seven Years in Tibet,’ ‘Prince of Tides’) to pen the screenplay for a sequel to Angelina Jolie’s spy thriller ‘Salt.’
Johnston replaces Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the Phillip Noyce-directed original and was hired early last year to provide the screenplay for the follow-up.
Jolie has yet to put pen to paper to reprise her role of Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent who goes on the run after she is accused of being a Russian sleeper agent. The actress’s involvement will hinge on Johnston’s draft. As previously reported, Noyce opted out of returning to the director’s chair.
