Popeye for the Big Screen

Pop gets digital with Avi Arad…

A CGI feature of Popeye is reportedly in the works.

Avi Arad – head of Marvel studio – told reporters that he has secured the rights to the character and plans to reboot the character in a feature-length film.

Popeye was first introduced to the public in the 1929 King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre and was later adapted by Max and Dave Fleischer for a series of theatrical cartoons during the 1930s.

Robert Altman directed a live-action Popeye movie starring Robin Williams as Popeye and Shelley Duvall as his sweetheart Olive Oyl in the 1980s.
