Pine and Gyllenhaal May Follow Depp INTO THE WOODS

Actors in discussions for musical adaptation.

Both Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal are in talks to join Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep for Disney’s adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘Into the Woods.’

A darkly comic mash-up of classic fairy tales, ‘Into the Woods’ revolves around a childless baker and his wife who attempt to lift a family curse by journeying into the woods to confront the witch that put the spell on them. Along the way, the couple encounters classic fairy tale characters like Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’s’ Jack.

Depp is playing “a hungry and sexy” variation of the Big Bad Wolf, while Streep will take the role of the vain and charismatic Witch. According to THR’s source, Pine and Gyllenhaal would be playing the story’s pompous and self-absorbed sibling princes who are linked to Cinderella and Rapunzel.

Production is gearing up for an autumn start with Rob Marshall behind the camera directing from a script by James Lapine, who co-created the musical with Stephen Sondheim.
