Long-gestating adaptation moves forward…

The folks over at ComingSoon have learned that Ewan McGregor (‘Our Kind of Traitor,’ ‘The Impossible’) is teaming up with ‘Salt’ director Phillip Noyce for a film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Philip Roth novel ‘American Pastoral.’

McGregor will play Seymour “Swede” Levov, “a blonde Jewish businessman living in Newark, New Jersey, whose conventional life is ruined by the domestic social and political turmoil of the 1960s during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson.

Screenwriter John Romero (‘The Lincoln Lawyer’) penned the script for the long-in-development project. Filming on the adaptation is expected to get underway early 2015.

Noyce’s latest, an adaptation of Lois Lowry’s ‘The Giver’ starring Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, and Meryl Streep, opens in Irish cinemas this summer.
