Nzingha Stewart Writing THE FLAMINGO KID Remake

Brett Ratner on board as producer.

Deadline has learned that a remake of Garry Marshall’s 1984 coming-of-age comedy ‘The Flamingo Kid’ is in development over at Walt Disney Pictures with commercial and music video director Nzingha Stewart attached to provide the screenplay.

Set in 1963, the original starred Matt Dillon as Jeffrey Willis, a high school grad and plumber’s son from Brooklyn who gets a job at “El Flamingo,” a rich Long Island beach club whose owner befriends the 18-year-old and becomes his mentor. Jeffrey soon alienates his blue collar origins for the beach club. However, there’s more going on beneath the surface than meets the eye.

Brett Ratner (‘Tower Heist,’ ‘Rush Hour’) is attached to produce via his Rat Entertainment banner, along with Michael Phillips and Juliana Maio of Lighthouse Productions.
