Nicholas Stoller Penning UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT Remake

Long-gesting remake enlists new screenwriter…

‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ writer/director Nicholas Stoller has reportedly been tapped by Warners Bros. to rewrite the script for the Will Smith-Denzel Washington-led remake of ‘Uptown Saturday Night.’

Starring Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, the 1974 original followed two friends who sneak out to a party at a high-class but illegal nightclub. During their visit, the nightclub is robbed and the friends are forced to hand over their wallets. The next day, one of the men discovers he has won the lottery but the winning ticket is in his stolen wallet. Together they must recover their stolen property.

Adam McKay (‘Anchorman,’ ‘Step Brothers’) is attached to direct, with plans to shoot the buddy comedy in the summer. Stoller is expected to deliver his draft next month.
