New DAY OF THE DEAD Remake in Development

‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ producers resurrecting zombie classic.

Producers Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell (‘Eliza Graves,’ ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’) have secured the remake rights to George A. Romero’s 1985 zombie classic ‘Day of the Dead.’

Grobman and Campbell acquired the rights from Taurus Entertainment’s James and Robert Dudelson, who produced an earlier remake back in 2008 with Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon.

Millennium Films and the Dudelsons will co-produce the new film with the budget said to be between $10 million and $20 million.

Talking to The LA Times, the producers revealed that they are hoping to honour Romero’s original, “we want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible. To make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in ‘World War Z.'”

Grobman and Campbell are meeting with scribes with the aiming of having the remake ready for a 2014 release.
