LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON Remake In Development

Hollywood plans remake of Japanese drama.

Mike Fleming over at Deadline has received word that DreamWorks is in negotiations with Fuji TV to acquire the remake rights to the Japanese film ‘Like Father, Like Son’ (‘Soshite Chichi Ni Naru’).

Written and directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, the Cannes Jury Prize-winning drama centres on Ryota Nonomiya, a work-obsessed businessman devoted to living the perfect family life. Then one day, he and his wife, Midori, get an unexpected phone call from the hospital where their son, Keita, was born. The 6-year old boy is not their son – the hospital gave them the wrong baby. Ryota must make a life-changing decision and choose his true son or the boy he raised as his own.

DreamWorks headhoncho Steven Spielberg was believed to be eyeing the film as a potential directing vehicle but the filmmaker’s reps deny the rumours.
