Production on Lars von Trier’s erotic drama ‘Nymphomaniac’ has kicked off this week in Germany, with release set for 2013.

The film stars Charlotte Gainsbourg as Joe, a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac who is found beaten up in an alleyway, by the charming bachelor, Seligman (played by Stellan Skarsgård). Seligman takes Joe home to tend to her wounds listens intently as Joe recounts the story of her erotic life, from birth to the age of 50.

Along with the recently cast Shia LaBeouf, new additions to cast include Jamie Bell (‘The Adventures of Tintin’), Connie Nielsen (‘Perfect Sense’), Mia Goth, Jens Albinus (‘Idiots’), Severin von Hoensbroech (‘Ruhm’), Peter Gilberg Cotton, Nicolas Bro (‘Warhorse’), Tabea Tarbiat (‘The Crocodiles Strike Back’), Janine Romanowski, Jesper Christensen (‘Quantum of Solace’), Tania Carlin, Felicity Gilbert and Shanti Roney (‘Together’).

‘Nymphomaniac’ will be shot as a two-part feature with two versions released, hard-core and soft-core.

In a recent interview LaBeouf claimed that the sex scenes would be would be real, but producers have announced that “the sex scenes in the film will be performed with the help of body doubles and visual effects.”
