Kiefer Sutherland and Jared Harris Travel to POMPEII

Two more additions for the period actioner.

‘24’ star Kiefer Sutherland is reportedly in final negotiations to play the villain opposite Kit Harington (‘Game Of Thrones’) and Emily Browning (‘Sucker Punch,’ ‘Sleeping Beauty’) in the 3D period action-adventure ‘Pompeii.’

With a script by Lee Batchler, Janet Scott Batchler, Michael Robert Johnson and Julian Fellowes (‘Downton Abbey’), the film is set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, and follows Milo, the slave of a shipping tycoon who dreams of the day he can buy his freedom and marry his master’s daughter Flavia (Browning). What Milo doesn’t know is that she’s already been promised to a corrupt Roman senator, while he’s been sold to another owner in Naples. Just when things can’t get any worse, Mt. Vesuvius erupts, prompting Milo to head back to Pompeii to rescue his love and his best friend, a gladiator who’s trapped in the city’s coliseum.

THR reports that Sutherland will play the scheming senator who enslaved Harington’s village, and forces the merchant to give his daughter’s hand in marriage to him.

Also set to join cast of Paul W.S. Anderson-directed feature is ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows’ and ‘Mad Men’ actor Jared Harris, who has closed a deal to take the role of Lucretius, Milo’s wealthy master.

Filming is now underway in Toronto, Canada.
