Kath Kim movie goes into development

Noice, Different, Unusual – Australian comedians get ready for the big screen

Look at me, Look at me.
Everyone’s favorite mother and daughter duo, Kath and Kim (The Australian version not the awful American remake) are preparing for the big screen in ‘The Kath and Kim Filum’.

The show KATH & KIM, was a big hit in Ireland when it screened on RTE a few years back, it gained cult status in the UK and was a small hit in America, where it spawned a spin-off show with Selma Blair and Molly Shannon.

The movie follows the suburban Melbourne family on a whirlwind trip overseas which “becomes a vajazzling tale of love, lust and revolution.” (fingers, crossed they stop off in sunny Ireland!). Jane Turner and Gina Riley will return to their roles, while also writing and producing the film. It’s their first project since they worked on the short-lived U.S. version of their hit Aussie sitcom for NBC in 2008. (we did mention that was awful, right?)

‘The Kath and Kim Filum’ will receive production investment from Screen Australia. Speaking about the project CEO Ruth Harley said “Australia’s comedic sensibility is world renowned and is a distinctive part of our cultural identity. The Kath and Kim Filum represents iconic Australian comedy.” Ted Emery is lined up to direct the film.
