Julianne Moore and Zach Galifianakis Join FREEHELD With Ellen Page

Indie drama adds two…

Julianne Moore (‘Seventh Son,’ ‘Non-Stop’) is set to join Ellen Page for the Peter Sollett-directed indie drama ‘Freeheld,’ says THR.

A feature adaptation of Cynthia Wade’s 2007 Academy Award-winning documentary short of the same name, ‘Freeheld’ follows Stacie Andree (Page), a woman who was denied the pension benefits of her long-time partner and veteran New Jersey police detective Laurel Hester (Moore).

‘Hangover’ star Zach Galifianakis is also set for a role, that of gay rights activist and Garden State Equality founder Steven Goldstein.

The filmmakers will now turn their attention to filling the role of Dane Wells, Hester’s conservative detective partner who was surprised to learn of her sexual orientation, but became the leader in the fight for the couple’s rights.

Sollett (‘Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist’) is gearing up for a summer start with the screenplay coming from Ron Nyswaner (‘The Painted Veil’ ‘Philadelphia’).
