Depp to produce and star in Seuss biopic.

THR is reporting that Johnny Depp’s is attached to star in a live-action movie about the life of classic children’s author and illustrator Dr. Seuss, creator of such classics as ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ and ‘Green Eggs and Ham.’

Seuss, real name Theodor Geisel, was born in 1904 and spent much of his childhood in Massachusetts before going to college at Dartmouth. Throughout his early years, he drew advertising and comic strips, then political cartoons during World War II.

By 1950, Geisel was publishing the books that became worldwide classics. He died of throat cancer in 1991.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star’s production banner Infinitum Nihil is developing the project with Illumination Entertainment and has hired Keith Bunin (‘In Treatment’) to write the screenplay.

Depp is currently finishing off shooting Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows,’ in which he plays vampire Barnabas Collins.
