John Goodman and Brie Larson Join THE GAMBLER

Remake adds two more…

John Goodman (‘Monster University’) and Brie Larson (‘Short Term 12,’’21 Jump Street,’ ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’) are set to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in Rupert Wyatt’s upcoming drama ‘The Gambler.’

A remake of the 1974 film starring James Caan (itself based on a short story by Fyodor Dostoyevsk) the drama focuses on Jim Bennett, “a college literature professor (Wahlberg) whose vices cause his life to spiral out of control.”

Larson will take the female lead, while Goodman will be playing “a Jewish loan shark, to whom Wahlberg finds himself indebted.” Jessica Lange, Michael K. Williams and Travis Tope are on board for supporting roles.

Larson will next be seen starring alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson in the former’s directorial debut, ‘Don Jon,’ when it hits Irish cinemas November 15th.
