Jeff Bridges May Replace Zack Galifankis in RIPD

The Dude to play wise-cracking gunslinger in supernatural comedy.

Jeff Bridges is currently in talks to join Ryan Reynolds for the supernatural comedy ‘R.I.P.D,’ in a role previously linked to Zack Galifankis (‘The Hangover’).

Robert Schwentke (‘Red’) is set to direct ‘R.I.P.D.,’ an adaptation of Peter Lenkov’s Dark Horse comic of the same name which centers around Nick Cruz, a cop who was murdered by an unknown assailant while on the job. He accepts a deal with the R.I.P.D. to serve a hundred years of service in exchange for a chance to figure out who it was that killed him.

Bridges would be playing a wise-cracking gunslinger who has been dead for hundreds of years, who tags along with Cruz as they patrol the underworld. Galifankis dropped out of project early this month due to scheduling conflicts with his political comedy with Will Ferrell, the Jay Roach-directed ‘Southern Rivals.’

With Warner Bros. looking to get ‘Green Lantern 2’ into production as soon as possible, it is unclear when ‘R.I.P.D.’ would begin production.
