Jean Reno Leading THE SWEENEY French remake THE SQUAD August 28, 2014 Will take on Ray Winstone role in redo… French production banners SND and Capture The Flag Films are teaming with and U.K.’s Vertigo Films for ‘The Squad,’ a Paris-set remake of ‘The Sweeney.’ Benjamin Rocher (‘Goal of the Dead,’ ‘The Horde’) is attached to direct with Jean Reno (‘Léon,’ ‘Alex Cross,’ ‘Les visiteurs’) in the lead role of Buren, a tough, old-time Paris police cop determined to do what it takes to catch the bad guys. “We are tremendously excited to be turning ‘The Sweeney’ into this brilliant French version with the privilege of being able to work with one of our favourite actors, Jean Reno,” said Vertigo Films co-founder James Richardson. “Director Benjamin Rocher and producers SND and Capture (The Flag) Films have an incredible vision for this action packed movie set on the streets of Paris,” said James Richardson, co-founder of Vertigo Films. Filming is set to get underway in Paris this October with release pencilled in for late 2015. Nick Love brought the iconic 1970s police series to the big screen back in 2012 with Ray Winstone and Ben Drew in the lead roles.
