Hugh Jackman (‘Prisoners,’ ‘The Wolverine’) has reportedly entered into negotiations to play the villainous pirate Blackbeard in Joe Wright’s Peter Pan origin tale ‘Pan.’
The Jason Fuchs-scripted adventure tale is a prequel to JM Barrie’s classic story and revolves around an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes a hero to the natives and leads a revolt against the evil pirates.
Variety has Jackman’s Blackbeard as the main antagonist, with Hook serving as Pan’s close ally before turning bad. ‘No Country For Old Men’ star Javier Bardem was the original choice for the role.
Wright and Warner Bros. are expected to hold an open casting to fill the title character, with an actress in her mid-20s being sought to play Tiger Lily.
