HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS Helmer Zhang Yimou Climbs THE GREAT WALL

Yimou circles fantasy-adventure…

Acclaimed filmmaker Zhang Yimou (‘Flowers of War,’ ‘House of Flying Daggers,’ ‘Raise the Red Lantern’) is, according to Heat Vision, in talks to take the reins of Legendary Pictures’ long-gesting action adventure ‘The Great Wall.’

The film, based on a story by Legendary Entertainment’s Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull and Max Brooks (‘World War Z’), will reveal the legend behind a great mystery of our age: why this magnificent structure came to be.

Edward Zwick (‘Love and Other Drugs,’ ‘Defiance,’ ‘Blood Diamond’) was originally behind the camera, with Henry Cavill (‘Man of Steel’) and Benjamin Walker (‘Heart of the Sea’) set to play “British soldiers travelling through 15th century China who witness the construction of the massive edifice that will one day be known as the Great Wall. They soon discover that its intended purpose is not to keep out human beings, but terrifying creatures.”

The trade hear that the script is set to receive a rewrite, but with the basic concept remaining. Whether the supernatural elements remain is unclear.

Tull and Legendary’s Jon Jashni will co-produce with Charles Roven and Alex Gartner of Atlas Entertainment.
