GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Officially Adds Vin Diesel

Vin Diesel is Groot!

Official: Marvel has announced that Vin Diesel, star of the star of the Fast and the Furious and Riddick franchises, is to lend his gravelly low voice to Groot in James Gunn’s live-action outing of Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’

Diesel rounds out a group that includes Chris Pratt (‘The Lego Movie,’ ‘Parks and Recreation’) as Peter Quill/StarLord, ‘Star Trek into Darkness’ and ‘Avatar’ actress Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Bradley Cooper (‘American Hustle,’ ‘The Hangover’) as fan-favourite raccoon gun toting Rocket Racoon, wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista (‘The Man with the Iron Fists’) as green-skinned Drax the Destroyer.

The epic adventure also co-stars Lee Pace (‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug,’ ‘The Fall’), Karen Gillan (‘Doctor Who’), Michael Rooker (‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Super’), Ophelia Lovibond (‘Nowhere Boy,’ ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins’), Benicio Del Toro (‘Paradise Lost,’ ‘Savages’), Glenn Close (‘Damages,’ ‘Fatal Attraction’) and John C. Reilly (‘Wreck it Ralph,’ ‘Step Brothers’).

In the far reaches of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an unlikely cast of characters including Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket Raccoon must join forces to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions.

In addition to ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ on April 2014; ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ on May 2015; and ‘Ant-Man’ in 2015.

“Yep it is completely official. AND he’s amazing,” said Gunn via Facebook. “I never knew someone could say I AM GROOT so many different ways and with such feeling (and that sounds like I’m kidding but I’m not!)”
