GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Adds Michael Rooker as Yondu

Will play founding member of the superhero team.

Deadline is reporting that Michael Rooker is set to reunite with his ‘Slither’ and ‘Super’ helmer James Gunn for Marvel’s superhero ensemble ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’

The actor, best known for playing Merle Dixon in ‘The Walking Dead,’ will take the role of Yondu Udonta, a founding member of the original Guardians team.

In the comics Yondu is a game hunter from the Zatoan tribe, a group of primitive beings native to Centauri IV, the first planets outside of Earth’s solar system to be colonized by humans. Like his entire tribe, Yondu possesses no superhuman physical powers, but possesses an intuitive mystical “sixth sense” perception that permits him limited empathic relationships with other life forms.

Rooker joins Chris Pratt, Dave Batista and Zoe Saldana, who are on board to play Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, and Gamora, respectively.
