EVIL DEAD Director Tackling DANTE

Based on the Electronic Arts game…

‘Evil Dead’ director Fede Alvarez has entered into talks to take the director’s chair for a live-action adaptation of the Electronic Arts video game ‘Dante’s Inferno,’ reports Deadline.

Based on Dante Alighieri’s famous literary work, ‘Divine Comedy,’ the 2010 game re-imagines Dante as a Templar knight who, with the help of the poet Virgil, ventures into the nine rings of hell to rescue his beloved Beatrice. In the process, he becomes an unwitting pawn in an ancient war between heaven and hell.

Author/screenwriter Jay Basu (‘Monsters: Dark Continent,’ ‘Fast Girls’) is on board to provide the screenplay, replacing Bruce McKenna who penned an earlier draft for Universal. Eric Newman and his Former Strike Entertainment partner Marc Abraham are producing the adaptation with EA Entertainment vice president Patrick O’Brien.
