Elle Fanning (‘Maleficent,’ ‘Super 8’) is to star in writer-director John Cameron Mitchell’s upcoming film adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s short story ‘How to Talk to Girls at Parties,’ according to THR.

Published in 2006, the story told of two teenage boys, Enn and Vic, who go to a party in 1970s London to meet girls, only to find that the girls are very different from the boys’ expectations.

The screenplay was adapted by Philippa Goslett and Mitchell and focuses on “a schoolboy and ‎punk who uses music and art as a way to escape and a female alien tourist (Fanning) who wants to escape her tour group” and explore the most dangerous place in the galaxy – the London suburb of Croydon.

Producers on the adaptation include Howard Gertler, Gaiman, Mitchell, and Michael J. Werner and Winnie Lau of Fortissimo Films.
