Diane Kruger in Talks for Andrew Niccol

Actress up for the role of The Seeker.

‘Inglourious Basterds’ actress Diane Kruger is in talks for Andrew Niccol’s upcoming adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s 2008 sci-fi novel ‘The Host.’

The film takes place at a time when a parasitic alien species called The Souls has invaded Earth. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact. When Melanie Stryder, one of the few remaining “wild” humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: Melanie putting up a fight, refusing to let go of her identity. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for Melanie’s brother and boyfriend.

As previously reported, Saoirse Ronan is attached to play both Melanie and Wanderer, with Max Irons playing Jared, the young man in love with Melanie, while Jake Abel (‘Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief,’ ‘Supernatural’) plays Ian, a young man in love with Wanderer. William Hurt is also set to co-star. Kruger is up for the role of The Seeker, who tracks down Wanderer.

Variety adds that Chandler Canterbury (‘Repo Men,’ ‘Knowing’) and Boyd Holbrook (‘The Big C’ ‘Milk’) have also joined the cast, with Canterbury taking the role of Ronan’s younger brother. Holbrook will play the older brother of Jake Abel’s character.

While there is only one book in existence, Deadline adds that film is being set up as a trilogy.
