Yates may go hunting magical creatures for Harry Potter spinoff…

THR is reporting that director David Yates (‘Tarzan,’ ‘State Of Play’) has entered into talks to take the helm of ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them,’ the first in a trilogy of films based on J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ spin-off.

Set in the ‘Harry Potter’ universe the fantasy tale takes place 70 years before the adventures of the boy wizard and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, and follows the story of “magizoologist” Newton Artemis Fido Scamander and his pursuit of magical creatures.

Yates is no stranger to the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, having directed four of the eight ‘Harry Potter’ films for Warner Bros – ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,’ ‘Half-Blood Prince,’ and parts 1 and 2 of ‘Deathly Hallows.’

The film, which is pencilled in for a November 2016 release, will mark the screenwriting debut of Rowling.
