ABOUT THE WOMAN IN BLACK
SEEN BY OVER 8 MILLION PEOPLE * RUN FOR 27 YEARS * PERFECT FOR LOVERS OF GHOST STORIES

Susan Hill’s acclaimed ghost story comes dramatically alive in Stephen Mallatratt’s ingenious adaptation. This gripping production, directed by Robin Herford, and designed by Michael Holt, is a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.

A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a Woman in Black, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but then, as they reach further into his darkest memories, they find themselves caught up in a world of eerie marshes and moaning winds.
David Acton (Downton Abbey, Doctors, Hollyoaks) plays the role of ‘Arthur Kipps’ and Matthew Spencer (My Family, Alice) plays the role of ‘The Actor’. The production is directed by Robin Herford, with designs by Michael Holt, lighting by Kevin Sleep and sound by Gareth Owen.

Interesting… I read The Woman In Black twice, but it has yet to be properly adapted to the screen. It’s a book that really crawls under your skin and won’t leave. Although the 1989 and 2012 film versions were good, they took liberties with the story and ditched the framing narrative. I’d certainly be curious to see what the stage version is like 🙂
