The film follows two men who are inspired to journey through war-torn Afghanistan by a photograph.
Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) will helm the picture.
Bale can next be seen opposite Mark Wahlberg in boxing biopic The Fighter.
