Christian Bale Circles THE DEEP BLUE GOOD-BY With James Mangold

Bale may reunite Mangold for ‘The Deep Blue Good-By’ adaptation…

Christian Bale (‘Exodus: Gods and Kings,’ ‘Out of the Furnace’) has reportedly entered into talks for the lead in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s 1964 novel ‘The Deep Blue Good-By.’

MacDonald’s book is the first a 21-book series revolving around Travis McGee, a self-described beach bum who takes “salvage consultant” jobs, recovering client’s otherwise forever lost property in return for half the property’s value as a fee. McGee’s first case finds him in search of a treasure hidden by a soldier after the end of World War II.

The film would reunite Bale and his ‘3:10 to Yuma’ director James Mangold who signed on to direct back in March.

Chernin Entertainment, Amy Robinson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson-Killoran are producing with author/screenwriter Dennis Lehane providing the script.
