Brenda Chapman has been named as the first woman to direct a film for Pixar.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chapman has been hired to helm the upcoming 3D animated film Brave.

The story revolves around a young royal girl named Mérida who wants to become an archer but accidentally endangers her kingdom in the process.

Reese Witherspoon, Julie Walters and Billy Connolly are reportedly circling the project.
