Animated adaptation finds its director…
Heat Vision has learned that DreamWorks Animation has enlisted Rob Letterman (‘Gulliver’s Travels,’ ‘Monsters vs. Aliens,’ ‘Shark Tale’) to take directing duties on the studio’s big screen adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s popular kids book series ‘Captain Underpants.’
First launched in 1997, Pilkey’s 10-part series centres on George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two prank-loving fourth graders who hypnotize their student-hating principal Mr. Benny Krupp, turning him into Captain Underpants, their own superhero creation.
The script for the adaptation comes from writer/director Nicholas Stoller (‘The Five-Year Engagement,’ ‘The Muppets,’ ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’). DreamWorks Animation’s Damon Ross is overseeing development.
