Bullock Circling ANNIE Remake

Comic turned musical eyes actress for villain role.

Sandra Bullock (‘Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close,’ ‘The Blind Side’) has entered into early talks to join the cast of the Will Gluck-directed update of ‘Annie,’ says TheWrap.

According to the trade’s sources, Bullock is up for the role of the villainous Miss Hannigan, the headmistress of the orphanage where Annie languishes. Carol Burnett played the role in the original 1982 film.

The remake has Oscar-nominated ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ star Quvenzhané Wallis attached to play the titular orphan, with Jamie Foxx on board as NYC mayoral hopeful Benjamin Stacks, a variation on the Daddy Warbucks character.

Production is expected to kick off in the autumn with Gluck directing from a screenplay by Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna. James Lassiter, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith are producing.

Bullock will next be seen starring alongside Melissa McCarthy in the Paul Feig-directed buddy cop comedy ‘The Heat’ when it opens in Irish cinemas July 31st.
