Screen Daily (via The Playlist) has confirmed that Brad Pitt is set to join Chiwetel Ejiofor in ‘Hunger’ director Steve McQueen’s ‘Twelve Years a Slave.’ Pitt’s Plan B production banner is behind the film.
An adaptation of Solomon Northup’s 1853 autobiography, the film tells the true story of Northup, an educated and married black man living in New York who was kidnapped in 1841 and forced into a slave pen, leading to years of enslavement under various owners. He was rescued in Louisiana in 1853. McQueen penned the screenplay with John Ridley (‘Bobby,’ ‘Three Kings’).
There are currently no details as to what role Pitt will play. McQueen’s regular collaborator Michael Fassbender will also star. Production is set for 2012.
