Ben Barnes to Topline THE SEVENTH SON

Actor in talks to replace Sam Claflin

Back in April Sam Claflin was set to take the lead in Sergey Bodrov’s ‘The Seventh Son,’ the director’s adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s ‘The Last Apprentice.’ Two months on and things have changed after negotiations with the actor fell through. Now, according to Variety, ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ star Ben Barnes (‘Killing Bono’) is now in talks to replace Clafin.

Barnes will take the role of Thomas Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son, who has the unique gift of being able to see various creatures “of the dark” including ghosts, witches, boggarts and more. To learn how to deal with the forces of the dark, Thomas is apprenticed to train as a Spook under the under the tutelage of Master Gregory (Jeff Bridges). Together they must battle the evil witch Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore). Swedish actress Alicia Vikander (‘A Royal Affair.’ ‘Pure’) co-stars.

Bodrov (‘Mongol’) will be directing from a script by Charles Leavitt (‘The Express,’ ‘Blood Diamond’). A production date has yet to be announced.
