Allen Hughes Has A BITTERSWEET LIFE

Hughes to remake 2005 crime drama.

Allen Hughes (‘Broken City,’ ‘The Book of Eli’) has been tapped to direct an English-language remake of the Korean crime drama ‘A Bittersweet Life’ for 20th Century Fox and New Regency, reports Deadline.

‘Invictus’ and ‘Sherlock Holmes’ scribe Anthony Peckham is on board to provide the script.

Released in 2005, the Jee-woon Kim-directed original revolved around hotel manager Sunwoo, who moonlights as the right hand man of underworld boss Kang. After suspecting that his young girlfriend, Heesoo, has been unfaithful, Kang orders Sunwoo to take care of her along with her lover. Instead he botches the job, unable to kill them without a reasonable explanation. In doing so Sunwoo soon discovers he has made the first mistake of his life and is soon hunted being hunted down by Kang’s gang.
