Following the success of Leigh Whannell’s ‘The Invisible Man,’ Universal is pushing ahead with its plans for a reboot of ‘The Wolfman,’ with Variety bringing word that the project is being developed as a starring vehicle for Ryan Gosling.
According to the trade, studio executives have been meeting filmmakers over the past month, and a decision is expected to come soon on who will take the director’s chair. Cory Finley, the writer-director behind ‘Thoroughbreds’ and the Hugh Jackman/Allison Janney-led ‘Bad Education,’ is believed to be in the mix.
It is unknown what the new take on ‘Wolfman’ will look like, though it is said to be set in present times and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller ‘Nightcrawler.’
‘Wolfman’ is the latest filmmaker-based approach to the studio’s classic monster universe. Karyn Kusama (‘Destroyer,’ ‘Jennifer’s Body’) recently signed on to direct a new take on ‘Dracula’ with Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay shaping the script.
