Morisette will take the role of Gray’s lover, the French night-club singer Marisa Damia.
The film is an Irish-Belgian co-production between EG Film Productions Limited, A Pembridge Pictures and Lightstream Pictures, in association with Windmill Lane Pictures and Belgium’s Saga Film.
“Eileen Gray’s evolution as an artist to recognition as a major influence on a century of minimalist and modernist design and architecture has resonance and relevance today. As an Irishman, it is a privilege to have worked with Mary over the past few years on the development and production of this prestigious picture,” said Lightstream Pictures producer Garrett Kelleher.
The filmmakers have also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money for the restoration of Gray’s E1027 Villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, where a good portion of the film will take place. Villa E1027 is expected to open to the public when the film wraps up principle photography.
