Irish filmmaker to direct adaptation of American Civil War novel…
It has been announced that ‘Frank’ and ‘What Richard Did’ director Lenny Abrahamson to set to helm an adaptation of ‘Neverhome,’ author Laird Hunt’s upcoming novel about a woman who joins the American Civil War.
Published stateside earlier this month, the critically acclaimed novel tells the harrowing story of Ash Thompson, who leaves her husband to don the uniform of a Union soldier in the American Civil War. Through bloodshed, hysteria, and heartbreak, she becomes a hero, a folk legend, a madwoman and a traitor to the American cause.
“Laird has written a truly amazing novel and created in Ash a character so vivid and original. I could not be more excited about making this film,” said Abrahamson.
Ed Guiney of Element Pictures, who previously worked with Abrahamson on ‘Frank’ and ‘What Richard Did,’ is on board to produce. The producer commented, “We are so excited to be involved with Hunt’s beguiling novel and look forward to taking it to the big screen.”
Hunt added, “I couldn’t be more thrilled or honoured that Neverhome is in the hands of Lenny Abrahamson and Ed Guiney whose work I so emphatically admire.”
‘Neverhome’ arrives on Irish bookshelves early 2015.
Abrahamson is currently in pre-production in Canada, working on ‘Room,’ his adaptation of the bestselling novel by Emma Donoghue, also produced by Guiney for Element.
