The Dublin musical is coming back in 2011, with the Grimes twins in a leading role
Alan Parker today confirmed he is to direct a sequel to his 1991 smash hit movie ‘The Commitments’. Celebrating it’s 20th anniversary next year, the sequel will follow the original cast forming a reunion for a charity gig in Dublin. In a surprise move X-Factor twins Jedward have been cast as the children of lead singer Deco Cuffe, with Andrew Strong returning to reprise his role. The twins will join the band as backing singers and will be the two youngest members of the iconic Dublin band.
All the original cast are returning for the sequel with the exception of Glen Hansard who is refusing to have anything to do with the project unless he receives head billing. Author Roddy Doyle is finalising the script for the film, which is hoped to be released in the summer of 2011. A brand new album will be released to tie in with the movie featuring Jedward and the original Commitments cast.
The shoot will be scheduled to fit around the Grimes Brothers busy schedule, they are also signed up for panto in the Olympia this Christmas and are hosting The Xtra-Factor for ITV in the Autumn.
