Irish-born helmer set for remake.
‘Game of Thrones’ helmer Brian Kirk is attached to direct an American remake of the critically-acclaimed 2006 Icelandic crime drama ‘Jar City,’ says The LA Times.
Directed by Baltasar Kormakur (‘Contraband’), the original was based on Arnaldur Indriðason’s best-selling novel and followed a world-weary detective who discovers that a recent murder of an elderly man is linked to an unsolved rape three decades earlier.
Kirk’s other credits include episodes of ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Dexter’ and ‘Luther.’ The director was on the short list to take the director’s chair for Marvel’s ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ which eventually went to fellow ‘Game of Thrones’ helmer Alan Taylor.
