Ben Stiller talks to Movies.ie about Tropic Thunder, his first film in the director Tropic Thunder is the comedy of the year. FACT. No other film has so wryly and wittily lampooned the movie industry since the likes of ‘The Player’ and ‘S.O.B’. In ‘Thunder’ a film crew (including Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.) set out to make the biggest war movie ever! But after huge budget overruns and a tantrum from the studio head (an unrecognizable and hilarious Tom Cruise), the hapless English director (Steve Coogan) decides what the film needs is a lot more realism. So, he plunks his all-male cast deep down into the jungles of Southeast Asia for some on-the-spot boot camp training. What starts out as an exercise turns disastrous when they encounter REAL enemy warriors trying to do them in… After seven years, Ben Stiller finally returns to the director’s chair with what is clearly his best comedy to date. Movies.ie had a chance to speak to Ben about the pressures of starring, directing and co-writing his latest pic ‘Tropic Thunder’. ‘Tropic Thunder’ is now showing at Irish cinemas everywhere… Look out for our video interview with Robert Downey Jr. next week!
