Shawn Levy Takes Reins of MINECRAFT Movie

Writer/director in talks for ‘Minecraft.’

Deadline has learned that Shawn Levy (‘Real Steel,’ ‘Night at the Museum’) is in takls to develop to direct the videogame adaptation, ‘Minecraft.’

Acquired by Warner Bros. earlier this year, the project is based on the uber-successful first-person, free-to-build sandbox game in which the player can engage in a virtual world, creating and modifying a dynamically generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks. The game has over 100 million registered users, and the Xbox version alone has sold over 10 million copies.

Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee (‘The Lego Movie’) and Jill Messick (‘Mean Moms,’ ‘Mean Girls’) are on board to produce.

Levy’s latest directorial efforts, the ensemble drama ‘This is Where I Leave You,’ is released in Irish cinemas October 24th, followed by ‘Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb’ on December 19th.
